A Formula for Easy Dog Treat Recipes

Here is a simple formula for making simple but healthy dog biscuits:

2 cups of whole flour + 3/4 cups of wet ingredients + 1 heaping teaspoon of herbs/spices + water/yogurt if needed

Whole Flours

Choose any or a combination of the following:

  • Oat flour
  • Brown rice flour
  • Coconut flour

Wet Ingredients

Choose any or a combination of the following:

  • pumpkin puree (unsweetened)
  • Sweet potato, mashed
  • Unsweetened pure applesauce
  • Fresh or frozen blueberries (thaw out frozen berries)
  • Bananas, mashed
  • Carrots, grated

Herbs / Spices

Choose any or a combination of the following:

  • Ginger powder
  • Dried parsley
  • Dried rosemary
  • Dried chamomile
  • Dried thyme
  • Dried dill
  • Cinnamon powder
  • Turmeric powder

Examples of ingredient combination:

  • Oat flour + pumpkin puree + cinnamon
  • Brown rice flour + bananas + turmeric
  • Oat flour + coconut flour + apple sauce + ginger + cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 325°F (160°C). Cover a cookie sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Combine all the ingredients in a mixing bowl and mix well. If the dough is too dry, add water or yogurt one tablespoon at a time. Knead the dough a few times in the mixing bowl.
  3. Put the dough between two sheets of saran wrap. Press it down a bit, and roll it out to desired thickness.
  4. Use cookie cutters to cut the dough into desired shapes, or cut it into squares.
  5. Transfer cut-out dough to cookie sheet and bake in preheated oven for 20 minutes.
  6. Turn the oven down to 175°F (80°C) and bake for an addition of 40 minutes.
  7. Turn the oven off and allow the biscuits to cool inside the oven completely before removing.
  8. Store in an airtight container.
